Headspace teaches you to meditated with a daily, guided session. While I have only been using the service for about 40 days now it has been by far the best meditation teacher I have found. Andy Puddicombe, the man behind the service, guides you through meditation sessions starting with ‘Take 10’ which is 10 minutes a day for 10 days and move on from there. After ‘Take 10’ is ‘Take 15’ and ‘Take 20’ which are 15 and 20 minutes a day respectively. All the while growing your understanding of what meditation is and ability to remain “mindful”.
Along with the guided meditations helpful videos really explain what meditation is and how you should approach it. The catch? The price will be a bit steep for most people. The app itself is free but the service will run you about 95$ a year. (You can pay a monthly subscription as well.) I don’t want to deter you from using the app, $95 a year is a pittance to pay for the benefits meditation can bring. Be sure to look in your email for a discount code after you sign up.
I just received an email from Headspace saying that they have created a whole new Headspace experience that will be released soon. It sounds very promising and I can’t wait to try it.
Note: This service is not tied to any religious organization. From their site:
At Headspace, we believe that meditation can benefit everyone, regardless of their spiritual orientation, so we draw upon the essence of these tried and tested techniques, but without any spiritual agenda whatsoever. Our approach is completely practical and absolutely non-religious, so can complement whatever your world view happens to be.
